I don't know about the htdig error... but htdig is a dependency of
khelpcenter-trinity which is a dependency of a heck of a lot of other
-trinity pkgs.

My initial thought was that the GUI issues could be related to
installing the Trinity DE on the GUI Raspbian (which recently changed
to their own PIXEL DE), but it appears that htdig is more important
than I would have thought... Is the GUI (PIXEL?) you get functional?

Have you tried Raspbian Lite and TDE?, e.g.
