I just wonder why you would run kalarm under xfce4. TDE is so good, that
actually one would do the opposite - run any app under TDE.

But perhaps the README of twin will help you understand what is going on in
the background

I think you might need starting other TDE components properly, so that you
provide running environment, but this is just an opinion after briefly
