They do not output sound directly to Alsa or OSS. The choice between Alsa and OSS is done in the Arts configuration (see Trinity Control Panel). In my case, I can choose between "Automatic", "Alsa", "OSS", "Nothing", and "Threaded sound system". Do you mean that you cannot choose OSS there ?
