As a follow-up in the discussion it seems like it is possible to set mouse acceleration options 
(inlcuing the acceleration algorithm) via `/etc/X11/xorg.conf` - see `man 5 xorg.conf`. 
Unfortunatelly, for whatever reasons these settings (and many ofther xorg.conf settings) seem to 
be completely ignored.
