I have this behavior when I use x11vnc on my computer. It somehow changes the keyboard layout. Usually I switch back to a German layout via > setxkbmap -model pc105 -layout de -variant nodeadkeys since switching via the kicker icon does not effect shortcuts in Java applications. It's strange.
