Seriousl long shot, and I'm sure you've tried it already, but..?..

Try that to turn it back on?

It seems somewhat reasonable the touch screen would be turned 'off' after a 
boot (reduces inadvertant 'stuff').  So...

The only other thing I can think of is hardware issue.  So, possibly the 
button is 'sticky?'  So do a buch of gentle twisty, pokiey, flexy actions to 
the touchpad while pushing that button?
