Kristopher is correct.  You were using the nightly builds in the months
leading up to a new release; once development begins again (as it has) the
nightly builds can be expected to eat your cat and other such nastiness. 
I would NOT use them on any system (I don't either) during the initial
migration and rename process.  I only install them on test machines that
are not used for any other purpose, and they are only available in the
first place for that purpose (i.e. accelerating the development process).
