There is also Porteus, developed by some fans of the now unmaintained Slax, 
and thus based ultimately on Slackware. Porteus is a live CD, not intended 
for a regular installation, but does just fine as a frugal install, so an 
available unused partition is not needed.

It comes with KDE and LXDE. In the 64 bit version the KDE is KDE 4, in the 32 
bit version it is TDE 3.5.12.
