Hello, I confirm the issue on RHEL 5 and RHEL 6. It works on Fedora.
I have no idea where to look at, since the building process is the same 
for all these distro.
Also, other kio modules work (you can try the "info" module, e.g: type 
"info:ls" in the URL). So it must be a very specific problem.

This is the debug output from Fedora 16 (working):

I do not see much difference, except this:
   khtml (html):  using strict parseMode
versus
   khtml (html):  using compatibility parseMode
