:~$ echo $SHELL
/bin/bash

Snip from my (Squeeze original, as in /etc/skel) ~/.profile:

if [ -n "$BASH_VERSION" ]; then
     # include .bashrc if it exists
     if [ -f "$HOME/.bashrc" ]; then
	. "$HOME/.bashrc"
     fi
fi

Should that read $HOME/.bashrc or have I missed something?
