I didn't think of 'fetchmail' as an email _client_. you don't use it to read email, you use it to fetch email via pop or something. I thought the original suggestion then wasn't to _replace_ kmail with fetchmail but to have kmail read the mail fetchmail has downloaded. perhaps I misunderstand. I have no idea if it would solve the problem - I haven't read the bug report. gr�sse!
