Is that a need for some specific hardware?

The (unofficial) ExeGNU Debian Wheezy live image is at 3.0.4

It has a remaster utility if anyone wants to try a rebuild. 
(linux-image-3.7 is now in Debian Experimental)

There are other images for pclinuxos and fedora but I don't know what 
kernel is used there.
