To continue from lower (sorry. ;-(  ), 17x11 is a size.  (Called 
foolscap, among other names.) Portrait and Landscape are 
orientations.  This suggests that everything except orientation is 
fixed and immutable.  At least, that is what it suggested to me. From 
what you say, it is not what it was intended to suggest.
