In every application the letter on the menu bar that has an underscore either at the begining or end has the letter missing. Many of the folders have no visible name, but if you click to rename the folder a blue bar appears the same length as the name if you could see it. Most of the flyout menus have either the full name missing or part of the name. There are spaces in the menus that a completly blank. On logout there are similar missing letters and blank spaces. I also discovered that a number of items on the desktop were marked "Read Only" and making them read/write allowed the app called to work. Hope this helps to find out what he has done. He swears that the last thing he did was to copy pictures off his phone before going on holiday, at which time everything was working.
