Ah hah! I knew there was a better way:

I hacked docqtplugin.cpp to get it to build -- but I know that isn't the right
place to solve the problem.

void DocQtPlugin::autoSetupPlugin()
{
    char* QT_DOCDIR="/opt/qt/man";
    TQString qtDocDir(QT_DOCDIR);
