Unlike you I am not in the least worried about the width.  What bothers me is 
the clarity and legibility.  And the original version is much better.  Much 
better contrast and fewer colours that add no functionality at all.  (That 
unnecessary blue stripe that necessitates changing the colour of the writing 
so that the two stripes are different colours instead of uniform.  Tiring and 
harder to read.)
