a) Could you please turn off HTML? That's *very* painful to read

b) I don't use Ubuntu, but I have LO running on R14/Wheezy and no UI problem, 
so your problem must be Ubuuntu-related and not TDe-related.

By the way, I installed LO from the LO site, so maybe your problem is caused 
by settings chosen by Ubuntu that now are no more satisfied?
