I don't recall having set any preferences with apt. I normally use sudo apt-get dist-upgrade -u when adept notifier alerts me that updates are available. I might mention that I slowly migrated from tde 3.5.13 to 14.0 using Slavek's repository, but as soon as version 14 became official, I chose to stay with the stable version rather than nightly builds, so I switched to the above mentionned ppa's.
