My laptop has both Exe and Lubuntu distros.  I don't care for the
Lubuntu desktop and couldn't switch it over to TDE.  Hence the
emphasis on Exe.

In Exe I copied and installed modules from Lubuntu.  Got wifi and ALSA
audio but then tried installing Pulseaudio in order to use Skype.
That clobbered audio completely, leading eventually to my original
post.

I will try Lisi's above advice - install a straight Jessie Debian,
then add TDE from the repositories.
