Hm ... do you have "restore last session" activated under session management? If yes, then kill all unwanted programs and save the session manually. Then select "restore manually saved session" (loose translation from german), log out and log in again. Then you might change back to "restore last session".

Anyway, I changed my settings to use "empty session" on logon a while back - there's no session management under FVWM on FreeBSD :-)
