I have seen this problem before. The workaround would be <cp -a 
/usr/lib/grub/i386-pc /boot/grub/> before installation.

Not exactly clear what "livecd on 64 bit sid" you are using or if it's 
anything to do with the "exegnu" images. I haven't seen any others 
debian-based with TDE.

The current exegnu images are (devuan-) jessie not sid. I will be 
checking them for this later.
