Yes indeed, and when using non Latin layout (I use BG) the "k" does not
work. Perhaps this is the issue OP has.

What I do is redefine the shortcut to CTRL+ALT+"right arrow" - this way you
can switch from within cyrillic layout. I use DE,EN,BG,RU.

I was thinking to open bug years ago when TDE was still KDE :) and never got
so far :)
