I don't know for sid, but I had a similar problem with Wheezy (at the time 
stable) because I had had to add repros from unstable for some libraries.

For a while I no more updated because that would remove Trinity. Removing 
these unstable repositories I could again update without problem.

So he may have a mix of version repositories that create the problem.
