The point is that Kate is not just "one program" but it is a collection of software pieces.
There is the default editor which is used in KWrite, Kate and TDevelop, there is the main Kate application and then
there is a Kate KPart as well, which is what you see for example embedded in Konqueror. You can delete the main KAte
program but the Kate KPart is part of tdelibs and together with the editor it is deeply integrated in TDE.
Best way to "not use Kate" is to change the default application for the various file types that are currently
associated with Kate.
