After installing TDE on a machine where KDE3 was previously installed, settings from .kde3 are migrated automatically to
./trinity at the first logon into R14.
There may be some hick-ups here and there in some special cases, anyhow the original settings in .kde3 are maintained
and you can always fix special cases manually.
