I have tried what you suggest before posting this comment,, since it seemed 
unlikely that what you suggested would affect the thing that is not a timer, 
but a "progress bar" of TDE saving the session.  

This does not arise if you don't save the session, which you don't.

All your suggestion appears to have done is make the session save less 
accurately - but I haven't tested that by rebooting normally again.

KDE did not tell you what it was doing when it was saving the session, just 
took ages.  TDE tells you where it has got to.  It is a "progress bar" not a 
timer.
