Somehow I don't think that this quite applies to my case, since the 
USB adaptor has been recognised by all my machines recently.
This issue arose because I wanted to be selective in transferring data 
from my old AMD desktop machine to my new HP 8300 one.

Thanks for this anyway because it might help with another old problem 
in a similar vein.
