Definitely flaky.  Previous versions have had no problem seeing the volume 
control on my Dell USB keyboard.  This one doesn't, either, until it does. 
  It then lost track of the keyboard entirely but not the mouse ... whose 
USB plug plugs into said keyboard ...

Any work-arounds until you're able to "bake it out" of the code?
