Check your default sound card.
Check to make sure you have all relevant pulseaudio installed.
Check to see if you can add a line to the skype .desktop to force it to use 
pulseaudio something like skype -pulseaudio?
I can't find anything on it but there has to be something.

Sorry I can't be of much help. Haven't used skype in 15(?) years.
