PEBKAC indeed, and due to my lack of typing skills, deteriorating eyesight - 
and lazyness.  Not to mention stupidity.

I'm sorry to have put you all to so much trouble, and am extremely grateful 
for all your help.  I am particularly slow on the uptake when I am panicking.  
And I was definitely panicking.

I had better buy myself a copy of The Hitchhikers Guide To The Galaxy, and 
stand it up in front of myself. :-(

I make no apology for shouting.  Indeed, I shall shout it from the rooftops.
