I'm also not a fan of shiny appearance. For example, compiz is for me totally useless thing. So I will take care to preserve the sober classic look. That you're reminded "get new wallpapers" is a very good idea! Linked to this is that we probably had for these downloads establish own source independent from KDE sources. A comprehensive theme of shiny appearance could possibly be as a separate package. To those who want it, would then be able to simply install a shiny theme package. Slavek --
