I think you should be able to find the older version(s) of what you
are worried about -- maybe at SourceForge, maybe at a devoted web site.
You may need to compile from source to get them to play nice with
new/updated distro libraries.

For instance, I installed an "older" version of KDE on this
system to get away from KDE 4.  :-)

Just my thoughts.
