I have been aware of Wayland for some time but I don't think X11 is truly coming to the end of its life anytime soon. When the time does come we would need to write a new backend renderer (probably targetting Cairo), then rewrite large chunks of TQt3, tdelibs, and tdebase at minimum. This is not possible with our current manpower.
