no hald - related to: lost kpowersave

so I see there's no hal in '/etc/init.d'!

apt-get says the latest version is installed.

I'm considering removing hal and reinstalling it. seems quite risky 
given everything that's associated with it.

I cannot rip up this machine too much though, not in busy season.

how should I proceed to restore hald?

I don't know what your problem is, but I'll bet it's hard to pronounce.
