if I'da known then whut I know now, it might notta gone some bad so soon..
a good apt-get clean probably would have freed up all the space I needed.
Of course I had openoffice AND libre-office installed, now just 
libre-office.
I went from a 20Gb FULL root partition to:
# df -h
Filesystem            Size  Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/sda6              20G   13G  6.2G  67% /
