The Desktop Environment, X windows system are applications installed on top of a base system, all removeable. Some of the tools available, imho, more usefull than synaptic. "aptitude, dselect"..package management from the command line...use the search and purge features. 'apt-cache search <text string>' , 'apt-get purge <text string>', 'apt-get autoremove', search 'trinity, tqt3', remove leftovers in /etc and /opt. To get a clean base + X system takes some time, weigh that against re-install. Greg -- Peace, Greg
