Thanks all for all the ideas.  I have to catch the post now (sorry, mail), but 
I'll have a good old rat hunt later.

Doh!  Doh!  <smacks forehead as light dawns>  All I have to do is purge the 
wretched thing, and it won't be able to self-start, even if purging doesn't 
quite clear it!
