re synaptic, on my new Jessie/R14 install  the 'synaptic' executable is 
in '/usr/sbin' which is not in my user path. 

In  kmenu edit The icon to start synaptic in the start menu uses 'synaptic'  
as the command.. path issue again...changing it to '/usr/sbin/synaptic' will 
work,. I set the 'run as a different user' to root.  You will be ask for 
admins password if  you have tdeudo setup.
