Thank you for the information, so it's probably not my installation. I have 
not tried removing the US keyboard (which is useful sometimes). It's possible 
it did happen in previous KDE/TDE versions but I did not notice it then. Now 
it happens relatively often and I can't relate it to anything I do.

I thought it could be linked to the use of a KVM switch, but your experience 
seems to negate this.
