That is supposed to be gksudo - or was last time I was reduced to using it. But that would certainly explain it. Anyhow, it is resolved. I can use tdesu now (root). tdesudo also exists, of course, but that would mean setting up sudo and sudoers. Thanks for the reply. Lisi
