There was a Paypal glitch, although browser glitches may not have improved
matters.  Originally, I couldn't see the donation link at all with my normal
browser settings--I had to use an alternative browser profile to make my
donation.  Now the link shows up as expected, so that's a measurable 
improvement.

I suspect it may have been a case of old Paypal code + Javascript-restrictive 
settings (or possibly certain versions of the Gecko layout engine) = problem.
