Look in your equivalent of ~/.xsession-errors (essentially wherever your
startkde output is logged) for two lines like the following:
[startkde] kdedirs_first: /opt/trinity/
[startkde] Reading from /opt/trinity//share/gtk/preload

Are they there?

Also you may want to ensure that you have the kgtk-qt3-trinity package
