But in /etc/alternatives www-browser -> lynx and x-www-browser -> vivaldi And, there is no reference to iceweasel anyplace in /etc/alternatives... And I have never gotten a response from vivaldi, which is a link to a link to a link to a link, to yet another link till it finally winds up in /opt/vivaldi-beta/vivaldi running a bash script that 111 lines later calls vivaldi-bin. BUT one of its dependencies is a broken link to a google chrome library, but I don't have that installed, the rumors and readme's are poisonous. And from synatpic, its not shown as installed so I must have gotten it someplace else. All nuked. Then I installed the vivaldi-snapshot with synaptic, but its far from complete, no videos, just stills & no detailed story, just the headlines on cbsnews.com. Removed. Then I reinstalled iceweasel, and it still thinks its the default browser. But I can't find an editor for this in the TDE menu's. WTH? So I ran update-alternatives as root, but again no mention of iceweasel. I did update some things to the latest versions. though. I am stymied, flaying about in the dark and capable of screwing things up royally. I thought maybe iceweasel would update its idea of who's the boss if I checked the box to check if its default at startup, shut it down & restarted it twice. It still thinks its king of the hill. So where IS that setting, and WHO can change it? Cheers, Gene Heskett -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
