So Chris could probably just pin binutils.  It seems a pity to slag off Debian 
developers and apt-get because he likes to run a mixed system that doesn't 
felicitously mix.  I always use aptitude anyway, except if I am explicitly 
told not for an upgrade.  It is so nice and chatty!
